Saving money using tools….

What can you use to help you get your job done faster?

Tools, its how we take hard jobs and turn them into easier jobs.

Developing software using time saving tools, is something that has become increasingly popular over the last few years.

Rapid Application development.

It is really just that simple, Application development used to take years to create a bug free release, Bill gates changed all that by creating the first software package that contained so many bugs that even bug spray was not effective.

You might wonder why this is funny but all in all Microsoft products, depend on a bad product to sell you support for that bad product.

Make sense?

Well then you should consider why Apple has become so popular…

If Microsoft was really such a great product, people would not be leaving it to run to apple.

The thing is that Microsoft has created a business model that is designed to take advantage of a bad product, If Microsoft developed clean code and stable applications, that did not crash, then they would have no need of the thousands of programmers who work to find patches to the thousands of lines of bad code that the average microsoft release contains.

Allegedly, Microsoft has been designed so that it does not provide a good product, allegedly that is, you might wonder what does all this have to do with Rapid Application Development?

Simple it has become a thing that many developers are moving toward because it allows them to create solutions that bypass microsoft.

Developing applications rapidly can be done using a template approach however that is not as effective as other methods that can help in developing a more intuitive approach.

Using a forth generation language.

The fourth generation language is by far the most impressive in terms of usage and simplicity.

It is a development that creates the right framework for fast application development without the traditional long term costs associated with developing application where in the past huge numbers of costly man hours were required, these days, you can over come that issue in one of two ways, in sourcing and in acceleration of development.

If we take the time that we would normally spend in outdated methods of developing and put that energy and money into a more modern architecture then you can apply that savings in terms of cost and manpower in such a way that you can out perform just about any competitor.

When you look at it in that way you can do what used to be impossible…

Marketing software

Sales is all about marketing and marketing is all about sales you cannot have one without the other.

There are a number of inventive methods of marketing software however, in just about ever instance it is very difficult to develop a serious revenue stream for software.

The reason why is simple, every where you look software is available for free.

How can you sell something that other people are giving away for free?

Simple you build a better mouse trap, now that may seem a little odd, but when you think about it, that is really what makes the most sense.

If you create a quality product, that works better than the free alternatives, then you have an opportunity to develop and successfully market a product that is better than the free products.

The truth about marketing anything online is more than just luck it is more than branding, or even how visually appealing that product might be.

Marketing a product is about many different things that make up a better product, a better mouse trap is what people want and if you give them what they want, that is when you will see real success.

piracy biggest problem for large companies

Most of the biggest software vendors have a serious problem and its not where you think it is, the problem is in a loss of its revenue by people who take or steal that software.

software piracy is a huge problem and a lot of people have this incorrect idea that if you cant stop it from happening, then you should just not do anything at all.

The problem with that thought is that you are leaving your customers,

(you know the ones that are actually paying you for your companies product out in the cold)

Imagine what would happen if you found that you purchased a product from a company and then later learned that hundreds of other people also have the software but they never paid for it.

You might be feel a little betrayed, because if the company that you purchased your paid product from does not care enough about their product to even try to protect it then really you might want to consider purchasing a product from someone that does care about their product.

We know that technically it is impossible to completely protect a product right?

Technically that is accurate however that does not mean that you just allow people to do what ever they want else walmart would have one huge problem with theft.

What retain store would let anyone just walk in and walk out with their products without at least trying to make it really hard to do it?

Sure you cannot catch them all but you can deter them, you can make it hard to do, that is all you need to do to see an increase in revenue and your paying consumers will really appreciate that you care enough to provide some level of protection.

software licensing

How can you protect your hard work and efforts.

You might be surprised to learn that most every WSO ends up being

uploaded online with no protection at all.

The process of licensing software has become very important to the internet marketer.

In fact it should be one of the top concerns facing most business leaders.

What is really surprising is that many service providers do not even understand what they have lost.

The sad reality is that most marketers do not even bother to try to license their products.

Yet most product owners do not have a system in place. In fact, in the popular Warrior forum there is a sales forum called, the WSO, or Warrior Special Offer, forum most of the products sold on that forum can be obtained for free or for a very small price because of people who share and outright steal products.

This is a huge issue which a lot of sellers are ignoring simply because they think they cannot
do anything about it, so they do nothing to stop it or even slow it down.

How much money are you loosing online?

In just one forum, I found where one WSO product was being given away for free and 53 different “potential customers” downloaded the software, that is 53 people that will never buy that software.

Now here is the really crazy part, I contacted that Warrior seller and said, hey you know this is hurting your sales right, and this seller, said, yes, I know it but I cant do anything about it so I just raise the price of my paying customers to make up the difference.

(The first thought I had was really)

So, why should I be your customer?

Obviously you are too lazy or too inept to implement a software licensing system and if I choose to become your customer I will have to pay for all those users that illegally steal the software.

Why should I bother, paying you more money because you are too lazy?

That is a really good question and one that many paying customers should be thinking about before they choose to buy a product.

Product development

There is a process that developer engage to be able to produce the best method of creating a product.

Developing a product is all about providing a solution.

If you want to be able to create the best solution to a problem you really have to know what your doing, you need to intimately understand the needs of the client, because if you do not really understand then how can you create the ultimate solution?

The most important part of developing a product is to fully understand that without this knowledge you will never be able to create the kind of great product that does not require hype to sell it.

Recently with the popularity of Pinterest, many developers started to develop methods of automating the process of pinning and creating affiliate product links, but what they failed to understand was that this behavior is not tolerated and will certainly result in some serious problems for those people who use this software product.

With the latest Google update, dubbed, Penguin, many automated methods like backlinking, and social media spamming, are not well tolerated.

So basically if you use this software your website might get de-indexed…

I hope your not using that software…

Still people will do it, they will think that hey Im just a small website and Google does not care about me, and they are right but they are also wrong, because the decisions are not made by people that is the problem at Google, they have computers that “Filter” and when a computer makes a decision about your website, surely you must know that it does not care about your intentions.

The same principle can be applied to software production, if you take the short cut instead of the road less traveled, you often end up paying a higher price than you ever thought you would.

software production

Planning is one of the most important things to consider when your building a software product.

Would you build a home without first making plans to have the right materials delivered at the right time?

For example, if you ordered cement, before they were ready to pour the foundation, the cement would harden and be useless and yes, you would have to pay for that…

Creating software is all about the plan…

When you first begin to consider the process of developing a script, there are a lot of things that you need to consider.  Actually plan out in advance, because if you do not do that your software application will suffer needlessly.

A great Example would be a program I recently purchased, it was presented as a solution but after purchase it turned out to be poorly designed, with logic issues, file type problems, functionality was poorly planned, the code was not well produced or planned out.

Messy code is a real problem with some providers, they fail to accurately comment the code or they comment out code that did not work well but later forget to remove the code, it is the mark of someone that is not very professional about the products and scripts that they produce.

I could recommend, that the upload interface use a different uploader, one that processes file types, on the server side, and I could recommend that the schedule feature be processed on a separate PHP pages, but the developer is not interested in providing a quality product, they are only interested in selling a few copies of a software product then they take and use that data to support the idea that you can make money doing the same thing then they sell a “copy” of the website and its product and flip that website property, online.

Its a good business model one where you can make a few bucks here and there, but the problem is that there is no provision for a long term business model, no plan for developing quality that lasts.

Imagine what might happen if you produced a product that lasted for months instead of a few weeks.

What difference might you find in the amount of profitability you achieved.

While you may get what you pay for and often you do, if your a business that sells products and your products are not well conceived nor planned then you will also see the predictability, of the ROI, (return on investment) if you buy cheap gas, your car will not run as long or as reliable and eventually it will break down, leaving you stranded on the side of the road.

Don’t get stranded on the side of the road.

protecting your investment

Imagine for a moment that you just purchased that nice sports car you have always
wanted to own…

You get that shiny new car home and you sit in it smelling that new car smell, you go inside for a moment, and when you come back outside you notice that the windshield has been broken out, and there is a golf ball embedded in your brand new car, your furious, because its your dream.

What makes it even worse is that when you call your insurance agent, you find out that your car is not covered for this liberality, its a technicality really, (they tell you that you can claim it on your home owners insurance, but then the home owners insurance tells you that they cannot cover it either)

Now your thinking what the heck is going to happen now, my Brand new car is ruined.

What if you had just driven the car into the garage, it would have been protected…

What if,…

That is often a question we ask after something happens that we never expected to happen…

The main problem with products that are marketed online and offline is that often they are open to abuse and use by unauthorized persons, this creates two very serious problem for any business.

1. It reduces the value of your business, because when your business is not protected from theft and loss, your customers are also not protected from that same risk.

2. Value is what separates you from a business that becomes unprofitable

You had only managed to think ahead and developed a system that would have protected your treasured assets before the risk occurred?

That is what you should be doing with your business, that is what every business should be doing, but sadly most do nothing at all.

They rely on outdated products that do not work and they say to themselves, (Im doing the best that I can) but in truth, they only think that they are protected.

Getting the most out of your business.

That is often what happens, when you do not think about protecting the most important things in your life, the same is true of your business, very often insurance is designed so that no matter what happens, the insurance company can get out of paying your claim and in fact most of the time they will try to do just that.

Developing your business to be the best it can be.

Products are an integral part of your business, and every business has products, you may not look at it that way but with competition being as difficult as it is, you have to bring more to the table to stay on top in this world, with a challenging economy, with consumers feeling like they have no future, your job is to help your customers feel confident in your ability to deliver your services to your consumers.

You should have a plan for developing your business so that it becomes something that your customers cannot live without, that is how a business becomes both popular and profitable.

developing WordPress plugin

These days you can find thousands and thousands of plugins for free, but are they really good for your website, in some cases they might actually be bad…

What makes a good plugin anyway…

Recently there has been a lot of interest in wordpress plugins.

In fact just about every one and their brother is trying to sell all kinds of plugins, Sadly all plugins are not equally.

Properly produced or even programmed correctly,…

In case your new to the wonderful world of wordpress, a plugin is usually a series of PHP files that “hooks into” the wordpress system and performs a number of useful tasks. Usually this means that you have to create a frame work of commands and settings that will work in conjunction with wordpress.

The good the bad and the ugly. . .

wordpress is a publishing platform, used to create content and publish websites online.

The good is that there are many plugins that are free, the bad is that many of these plugins do not work or are seriously out of date, the ugly is that in some cases if your not looking at the PHP code it might do bad things to your websites.

The thing is that most people do not know what a plugin is doing at any time because they are not
used to reading PHP code.

Here are a few tips to help even the uninitiated, to look for that could help you detect a bad plugin.

Look for http://  preceding a website address that you do not know, that is something that you might want to examine, though some plugins will pull in advertising as a means of supporting the free plugin.

So just in case you do notice a url inside the plugin, PHP code, it might be a valid url, but if you check that url and you find say an advertising website then you know for sure that the plugin is not a well behaved plugin.

In those cases, you might need some help to disable that type of plugin or you could just find a much more well mannered, plugin.

Developing software

Tools save you time and money, it has always been that way and software is no different.

The most valuable tools will always be those that serve a purpose and are equally easy to use.

Creating something special is not an easy process, but it can be done.

Developing software is like putting together the many different pieces of a puzzle that provides a solution to an issue or solves problems, there are many different types of software, each type has its strengths and weakness, however the most important factor in software development, is choosing the right solution that fits your business needs.

 Creating and developing good software.

Developing software is about more than just programming
it is about design, user experience, work flow, easy of use,
flexibility and desirability.

The Grand Design…

When you first begin to design an interface what you need to do is to actually stretch out the design create an interface that is easy to use and is user friendly, those two things might sound like the same thing but they are not.

Making it work out for the best for your customer.

Imagine spending millions of dollars on a software interface only to discover that is is so complex that regular mom and pop users cannot figure out how to even use the software.

This happens all the time in large corporations, what they find is that they have to hire a consultant to develop a training program so that employees can learn how to use the software, this creates a burden on the company resulting in loss of time, energy and money.

The fact is that a programmer, is not a developer, in many cases you actually may have to hire someone to effectively communicate with the programmer so that a design is created that will meet the needs of the company and save them time, energy and money.

When you take the time to properly develop software where a minimal amount of time is required to get your producers up and running can result in a net profit of all those things that creates dynamic sucessful companies.

Licening WordPress plugins

You put a lot of time in developing a good product,

You make videos, you design graphics, you create sales copy, you test and test and test some more to create the best customer experience, but when it comes to product security what can you do to reduce theft?

Loosing sales is the same as loosing money,

Recently in many online forums, the idea was presented that you cannot stop people from taking your products and posting them online.

it is not something that any sound business person accepts as a part of doing business.

Just think about how profitable a retail business would be if they just let people steal all their profits…

why you need product licensing to stop people from robbing you

Stop product theft

It is something that is very difficult to avoid, but it is not something that you just decide
is OK to do.

Piracy is a huge problem online which is why they are looking at passing a bill to stop it, the thing is that often these “Well meaning laws” are sometimes abused, by law enforcement and corporations, that may seek to use and apply the law in a manner that was never intended by its divisors.

There are many wordpress plugins that use an API licensing system.

You can almost watch as in a matter of a few hours that fancy new plugin
or theme becomes available on many forums.

There are a lot of these systems that are made to reduce sharing but over all they just do not work, and some people say that you should not even try, but I think that seems a little odd when you think about it.

Some require you to use an email and a password, to “login” to be able to use a plugin.

Others, use a basic authentication method, and still others, may use a different approach.

Over all it is very difficult to keep someone from removing the protection from a plugin.

In fact over at some of the more popular sales related forums that sell products online, from the moment they start selling that product online, someone shows up giving away that product.

It is not only a problem for wordpress products but also a lot of other software products.

Licensing software products has become a very serious problem.

Even huge companies like Microsoft are not able to stop pirates.

So, how can a small mom and pop business hope to achieve product licensing bliss?

The answer may not be as easy as you might think but the truth is something that you should look at.
